Bermuda International Film Festival
The Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) is a boutique showcase committed to exhibiting a wide spectrum of foreign films, with the view that the programming will entertain, enlighten and inspire film appreciation for all. BIFF is an annual spring event, which highlights the best in world cinema. The festival features top films from the world’s leading filmmakers as well as introduces new talent from around the globe.
Shelly Hamill joined the Board of Trustees in 2010 and began with oversight of the transition from the founding Festival Director, participated in establishing financial controls allowing for BIFF to continue in a downturn economy, oversaw the creation of a Screenwriter's Workshop, represented BIFF at the Sundance Film Festival 2016 and continues to create relationships both in Bermuda and overseas to fulfill on the mission of the organization.
BIFF is a qualifying festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science for the Short Film – Live Action Oscar. In 2017, BIFF will celebrate it's 20th season.
Screenwriters Workshop
BIFF hosted a Screenwriter's Workshop where Bermudian and International Filmmakers were invited to hear from Naomi Macdougal Jones (Imagine I'm Beautiful), Craig Borton (Dallas Buyer's Club), Jim Hart (Hook, Dracula, Contact) and Bermudian Filmmaker Lucinda Spurling (The Lion and the Mouse). Jim conducted a presentation of his 'Hart Chart' where he disected the film Dallas Buyer's Club. This was the first time ever where Jim presented this material with the screenwriter in attendance. A real treat for everyone involved.
Sundance 2016
Attended the Sundance Film Festival to represent the Bermuda International Film Festival and the Bermuda International Film Market. BIFF is promoting Bermuda as a film company domicile to producers, film financiers, directors and writers.
